Frequently Asked Questions
What is AGF’s mission statement?
To promote the game of golf and its ideals through charity, education and community service.
What type of entity is AGF?
AGF is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and a 509(a)(2) public charity, registered in the state of California. Our Federal Tax I.D. # is 95-4539145.
What is the history of AGF?
Based on the initial “Adopt-A-Charity” concept formulated by national golf course operator American Golf Corporation (AGC), American Golf Foundation was created in 1995 to maximize golf-related charitable fundraising opportunities, with a goal of giving back to local communities. AGF was registered as non-profit organization in 2001, enabling it to further build upon this unique vehicle for giving back to worthy causes.
How does AGF accomplish its mission?
At the core of AGF’s mission is a caring team of volunteer AGF Ambassadors who contribute their time, passion and energy to help educate golfers about the game; raise funds and awareness for various charitable causes; and support programs that provide people of all ages and backgrounds with the opportunity to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf and the many positive life skills it teaches. AGF Ambassadors volunteer their time at American Golf-operated “host golf courses” nationwide to carry out AGF’s mission. Guidelines on all Ambassador-related activities at the host courses are regulated by AGF.
How does a charity organization benefit from hosting its charity tournament at an AGC course which has an AGF Ambassador program?
AGF Ambassadors can add immeasurable value to the host charity organization on the day of its charity tournament. Most importantly, the Ambassadors can run the par-3 charity fundraising hole to raise incremental donations from your tournament participants. Ambassadors can also serve as “extra hands” by helping to sell mulligans and/or raffle tickets during registration, setting up the course, etc. There may be other opportunities in which Ambassadors can become involved for the benefit of the charity. Specific arrangements must be coordinated in advance with the AGF Ambassador Captain, with the approval of the host course general manager.
What percentage of AGF fundraising goes to the actual charitable beneficiaries?
90% of net proceeds from any AGF fundraiser will be donated to the designated charitable organization, with 10% reserved by AGF as an honorary donation. The honorary donation provides support necessary to AGF's operations, and also allows AGF to make other worthy contributions in accordance with our mission.
How much does AGF donate per year on the average?
AGF is proud to make a difference by donating $400,000 to $500,000 each year to worthwhile organizations nationwide.
